Map turtle was injured this weekend. Brought into vet immediately with multiple punctures to the shell, and bridge fracture communicating with the coelom, possible of infection. A This is due to a dog attack.
The shell was reconstructed yesterday and he was awake and responsive after a mild sedative. When I brought him home he closed his eyes and has not opened them since. He is responsive when feeding or giving medicine, but his eye membrane is not open, but he is awake.
First I want to know if anyone has had similar experience with this type of injury and did their turtle live through it?
I have the option of bringing him back to vet tomorrow for another x ray to see if his lungs are getting infected. But fear this might stress him out further. Should I wait and see the results of food and medicine in the next day?
Basically want to know the possible reasons of why his eyes are closed after getting his shell fixed.
Thank you
