How do you get a broken bone with just ramp in the tank? She has never walked around on the floor or anywhere. The dr. said it should heal in a few days...if not bring her back then he'll x-ray her. (Maybe he's suspecting broken bone?)

If she has MBD, she can't absorb calcium properly, which not only softens the shell but also eventually the bones. I would think it would be very possible for there to be a broken bone even with only climbing up and down the basking area. Good luck - I'm sending some positive thoughts to you and your turtle!

yeah, I hope your baby gets well soon!
I have two baby RES; Emerald(Emmie or Rocky for short, plus she has green ears!) and Pretty. (Don't ask me about her name. My brother named her. He's only 6 1/2.)

What would dr. have to do if it's broken bone? I can't bring him to dr. until Sat. morning, would that be ok?

I don't know what the vet would do! Has anyone out there had experience with a broken turtle bone?

I'm not sure if this will be helpful at all (because it's about a water dragon) but it does talk a little about MBD and broken bones...

Is the doc for Saturday the one for the second opinion or is it the original one? In either case, I'll look for a new one ASAP.

Take a good look at the claw that looks bent (look at the nail bed). Is it just the claw or is it the bone that continues back through the paw? If there's bleeding, there must be an open wound somewhere. Keep the area clean to prevent infection until your turtle is seen by a vet.

If you're concerned that the turtle has broken a bone from climbing on the basking area, make the basking area easier to get on. If your turtle still has MBD, it's painful and you need to make things as easy as possible for her.
