The spots are flat and they are getting smaller now. He does bask and sometimes even falls asleep basking. And yes, they are the pinkish teardrop-shaped spots in the back of his head.
I was thinking of getting some really large river peddles so that he cant eat them and I can still wedge some plants in between them. Can I get some from outdoors as long as I dsinfect them in boiling water?

As long as the rocks are smooth and not porus you can boil them for about 20 mins.
