Are you sure it was a worm? Was it alive?

Do you have a filter? It could be cause of dirty water..like brown gross water, though.

The question is, where did it come from? Did you feed any live foods recently? You may want to bring a fecal sample to your vet to do a test for worms. The test alone should only be about $20 and you wouldn't need to bring the turtle in.

Could it have been fly larvae or something like planaria?

i have never given it live foods.. i recently bought a new setup, new xp3, 60gal tank, new heater though i already had the uvb/a lights

nope, not a fly maggot or anything like that.. it was like 5-8millimeters long and skinny and black, it moved kinda like a caterpillar when i got it out of the water.. hmm maybe it just fell in there from somewhere else cuz it wasnt even on the bottom of the tank, it was floating on the surface vertically (like its head was out of the water and the rest in the under) i dunno, but i guess this wasnt as urgent as i thought.. i havent seen more

was it a mosquito larvae? They usually float at the surface.
