I agree with everyone here that a vet visit is in order.

If your turtle is digging in the carpet, it means she is retaining eggs. They won't lay the eggs on the carpet (I've been thru this before too so I can relate!). If you live near a nice big open farm field near a lake/pond, take her out there & walk with her. Chances are she will lay them in the soil there & you can just destroy the eggs after that. Keep in mind this may take a few hours for her to find the "perfect spot" so just be patient. There was a guy on this forum a while back who used to take his female turtle out to lay her eggs & he had success with this. She laid her eggs, and all was well. Good luck! Keep us posted.

If money is an issue, try shopping around and finding a vet that has a payment plan... not many do, but if you are lucky you can find one! :)
