Hi steve i was on my way home from work in n.y. take the staten island ferry and to my suprise there was a woman there from chinatown selling res turtles so i rescued one--- wanted to take them all--- but i dont have that kind of room or means to take care of them all -- i added him to the tank after a couple of days with my pastel slider-- wich was a mistake i think because a day or to later my turts eyes were in pretty bad shape

Today july 23rd i came home from work and there eyes were realy puffy and shut I took your advice and brought my turtles to the vet you recomended Northside animal hospital--and i saw DR.Borzio who works with DR. mark Salemi and was given some great care and advice-- I was given VETRO-GEN wich is gentamicin sulfate ointment and given some over the counter viteman A&D ointment to be given twice a day until eyes clear Said weight was good for both hatchlings did not give sample of stool because you must just assume they have salmonella any way to be safe so why test. also to keep my water at 85 to 86 degrees
turtles should be fine in a a few days i hope
Thank you for your help I will keep you posted

The water temp sounds a little high to me, but if that's what the vet said...

Hope they recover soon.

I'm happy to hear they're doing better! I look forward to the pictures.

By the way, when you have a stool sample tested, it's not for salmanella, it's for internal parasites - mostly worms. They're pretty common in turtles. If a turtle is eating normally but fails to grow or grows too slowly, then you think of internal parasites. Just something for furture reference...

Glad to hear that you turtles made it through and are doing better. Are you feeding them any pellet food? Crickets really don't have much nutritional value. A 180gal tank sounds awesome! :)

Not to sound rude, but when you buy that one RES from that woman you're putting another 2 RES into that horrible situation.

I just got a chance to read thru this thread today.

While I was on vacation, I got a message thru my froggyfriends board from a guy wanting to know more about turtles & somehow that [name removed] site was mentioned. I immediately warned him not to deal with those people because they are rude & treat their animals cruelly. He wanted to know more details & since I was on a cruise ship getting charged 55 cents/minute for internet time & didn't feel like typing for 2 hours straight, I sent him over here. Hopefully he got here & was able to read some of the dangers of dealing with [name removed] site.

Thanks again to everyone who posted about [name removed]....you make my job a lot easier!!!
