Turtle waste does not normally float, the only exception I've seen is diarrhea. I would remove the fish in your tank until you know your turtle is actually eating

I don't have a separate tank that I can use for an indefinite time. Only a very temporary one (mostly because I only have one filtration system to airate the water). If I remove them, they will die.

So what did I see in the water? I've never seen my fish produce waste like that. And while it's understandable that my Pleco would nip at the turtle food that's started to soften up, I find it highly unlikely that he would eat whole krill.

It's up to you to decide what to do. Guessing will not solve your problems any sooner, especially since there is something unusual going on in there.

My RES's poop has floated at times, and it has looked normal. There have been times as well when it didn't look "normal" (from what he had eaten) and it has stayed on the bottom.

I know that, but taking the fish out is not an option that I have.

One time my turtle would do the opposite when I first got him. He would stay in the water all the time, but never come up to bask. When I wanted to get him up on his rock I would move my fingers to make him think they're worms and he would come chasing them up into the baskng rock( or back into the water). I would suggest doing that until he gets back into his water.

Sorry for the long absence. I just wanted to let everyone know that my turtle seems to be doing great. As I type this, he's actually eating his pellets (right in front of me!). Seems he's gotten over his shyness, and decided to go ahead and pig out. He's more active now, and seems to really be enjoying himself.

I guess the next step would be to buy a better water filter, so I don't have to clean his home so frequently.
