Help again... pink who was sick for a few days now, got de-wormed at the vet yesterday, and for a few days he was kind of lethargic and only basked all day long. today i don't know what happened, but he is COMPLETELY insane right now. he is twirling around himself in the tank, swims lightning speed in any direction, sticks his head in as well as his front legs, gets scared from completely nothing.. its hard to describe exactly, you'd have to see it. Let's just say i know what "normal" freaking out looks like and this is not it. he is just randomly slamming into things and literally looks like he went mad. I don't know if he's in pain or what?

It's almost like he has lost control over his motorics, or his body is possessed or something..

Here's a rough video... I know it's not telling you much, but around 1:36 or so you can see him going crazy for a few seconds, and whenever I'm *not* filming him, he acts like that a lot more often.. something is definitely wrong. he also squirms when he's on the dock, without being scared by anyone.

He does appear to be in some distress. Maybe a reaction to the medication. Have you called the vet and described this to him? Is Pink eating? Does he react this way right after he eats or is it all the time? What does his poop look like?

I thought it might be a reaction also.. just now. He is not eating at all, I can't even get him to look at food. He is just constantly squirming around the tank in great distress. This started today and is going on all day.. He was completely different yesterday before the de-worming. The other turtle also got the same treatment but he looks the same, and is willing to eat.

My main concern is, is he going to live until tomorrow? I'm not sure I can bring him in to the vet tonight.. I called her but she hasn't called me back (that's the last time I'm going to her, for sure).

I'm also noticing his bottom lip is dark in color, which doesn't look great

Did the Vet confirm that he has parasites? A fecal test is the way to go. Keep trying to get a hold of the vet (holiday weekend is coming), maybe bump the water temp to 78-80F and keep trying to temp him to eat. Try tuna, packed in water, or maybe some pre-soaked krill.
I don't think he is in danger just yet. It is probably just a bad reaction to what ever she gave him (he was eating before, right?).
I noticed you are in NYC. There is an exotic Vet in Staten Island I've used, Dr. Salemi. Here's the website.

Do you recall what medication was given? Maybe give them a call and see what they think.

Has he pooped any since he was given the medication? Was the other turtle also given worm medication?

There was a bit of poop earlier today but I think it was from the other turtle, and yes, they both were given the worm medication, although Brown has no reaction while Pink is obviously not well. The vet called me back now, said its possible that since a lot of the parasites are dying inside of him that could cause belly ache. It's just that his belly ache seems pretty severe.... She said I could try to go get some pain reliever for him. Thoughts?

grey goose, no he wasn't eating before... it has been a few days already. but before he was just lethargic, and basking all day, and not really interested in food. But now it's not that, it's just that he's too busy being in pain to pay attention to anything else. Right now he's sitting on the ramp and every few seconds or so just jerks his back legs as if someone poked him with a needle. It seems the pain might be sharp, unless he's just overreacting.

That would be my guess, his stomach is bothering him. What made the Vet conclude it was worms? Did they do a fecal exam? What kind of pain reliever would you get for a turtle?

she didn't do a fecal exam. i just told her that he wasn't swimming lop-sided or anything, and seemed to get sick suddenly, about at the same time when i found a lot of undigested lettuce poop all over the tank, leading me to believe that lettuce was bad and he might have eaten something bad. So she said maybe even if she's not certain, they should get de-wormed prophelactively. She would prescribe whichever pain reliever for Pink. I got her to look at this video and am waiting for her response.

Ok, I talked to her, and she couldn't get to see the video because of technical problems, but anyway she said I should go get Instant Gas Relief Drops (sinethicone) and give him one drop, as well as go to the vet office tomorrow and pick up their prescription medication, something called metacane? meticane? I didn't pick up on the name exactly. I'm going to get the gas drops right now and see if it helps.

Oops! (rewind)

You are a very caring DAD and Pink is lucky to have you.

It's awfully hard to tell gender on here - to me, all turtles are male until proved otherwise and all turtle keepers are female until proved otherwise.
