I decided to give my RES some rosy red's the other night. well one of my two turtles got a little overwhelmed and began eating as many as he could. Usually hes ok with a few in the tank and they would usually last a week or two. But not this time. He/She swallowed them as fast as he could!! He caught two of them at the same time and now I think/know that he has a few stuck in his throat and cant seem to get them out. hes been wheezing and not going in the water very much. hes still pooping but theres still a very large lump in his throat. I've tried to get a tweezer near him but he wont let me touch him. Does anyone know what to do? or should i let nature take its course?

The vet or let nature take it's course. Maybe one of the fins got caught and he can't get it down or out. I hope he can breath. If you let nature take it's course, it could kill him.

How is your RES doing? It's been about 6 hours since you posted, so by now, I suppose the situation has resolved itself one way or another. For future reference, here are some other posts about similar problems:

Take a look at this one especially. This situation is very similar to yours and it was apparently a couple of days before it was resolved. The turtle keeper figured out a way to get in the turtle's mouth to pull the obstruction out:

I sincerely hope everything turned out all right. Please let us know.

well... this incident happened the other night. he is still okay... he stopped making the wheezing sounds but still has the piece in his throat.. his body seems a little swollen? he can put his head completely in his shell... hes seems a little more lethargic and has been trying to bask in the light a lot more... when i put him into the water he usually goes right back up onto the dock. i tried the toothbrush thing... that was a no go. and i also tried to trick him with food. i think he knew better he tried to get it twice but after he figured out i had tweezers he wouldnt come outta his shell again. so hes alive right now... thank goodness..

I'm glad to hear he's hanging in there. Hopefully next week you can find a vet that can help. Good luck.
