Urgent Care :: Prayer Request

Our Coco escaped from his kiddie pool on 8/18/08. We have looked everywhere over and over again. My husband is putting fliers on all the neighbors' doorsteps today. We won't stop looking, but if you could say a prayer for us, that would be so appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks Leslie. Unfortunately our yard isn't fenced in and both side neighbors are enthusiastic gardeners. Lots of places for Coco to hide. It's a little awkward for us to ask them if we can dig through their plants. We're hoping they will diligently look on their own and be enticed by our $50 reward. Oh boy, it's a lesson learned for everyone. Coco was maybe unattended for 5 minutes. He's been in the kiddie pool before and it was impossible for him to escape. He must have figured something out, perhaps climbed on the back of our other turtle.

Has he been found yet? If it hasn't rained lately, hose down the area to provide some moisture. It may help draw him out as well, if he's around.

Thanks everyone for your prayers and advice. We tore our yard apart this weekend and we still can't find him. We hosed the area down too. There is a creek about 250 feet from our back yard. Could he have "sensed" water nearby and gone for it? Part of me doubts it because he would have to be completely exposed for most of that trek, and he likes to hide.
I'm worried sick. He's part of our family and it breaks our hearts not to have him back. We're in South Jersey and lately it's been getting cold at night. Would he be able to handle cold as long as he's covered by dirt/brush? He will be missing one week as of noon today. I read somewhere (perhaps on this site) that captives can survive two weeks. So I shall continue to search and I hope I can come back to you with good news.

250 feet isn't that far and if your turtle was looking for water, he'd likely risk being exposed to get to it, especially if he saw trees or cover in the distance. Do you know if there are other turtles there? If so, have you gone to the creek and looked on the chance he'd be basking?

How cold is it getting? It's been getting in the 60's here at night, and my RES, who's outside, hasn't had a problem. If it's getting colder but warming up in the day, the coolness would slow him down a bit, but he should be OK, especially if he's not a hatchling.
