Had my turt for 7 months now and for 2 weeks I've noticed that he has been sleeping in the water during the day and basking less. Last week I noticed him sleeping in the water in the afternoon but yesterday he started sleeping even at 9 am. He's been sleeping more even when the lights are still on. He has just gone through an ear abscess a month ago and an RI 4 months ago. He is eating though and seems active at times.

What are the water and basking temperatures?

Hi Steve. water temperature ranges from 80 to 86 due to very hot weather. basking temps is at 90 to 96 depending on ambient temps. Does warm water make them sleepy?

Warm water might make it less enticing to bask. Is he still eating normally?

Is there more activity around his tank? Does he sleep at night?

The room he is in has minimal activity. He sleeps at night. Usually less than 10 minutes after I put out the lights he would go to sleep. He even goes to sleep even when the lights in the room are on. Sometimes by 7 pm he goes in his log to sleep.

What are the hours you are running the lights? He does sound like he's sleeping a lot, has he fully recovered from his recent issues?

I open the room light at 6 am. Turn on the basking light between 8 to 5 pm, onwards would be room light until I've finished cleaning the tank. Lights off between 9 to 10 pm.

Havent seen any other symptoms of RI. As to the ear abscess, what would be other signs of infection from this?

He could be tired from the treatment. How does act when out of the tank?

When I hold him, he tries to bite. When put in a separate container, he is restless, appears to be trying to get out.

That's pretty normal. Is he still sleeping during the day?
