This is my second turtle , I just recently purchased him on 7/16/15 from a local pet shop. I have him in a 20 gallon with a turtle filter and a basking rock/water fall filter so theres 2 filters. water is showing to be at 74 degress and theres a couple of rosey red minnows. Last night he was moving around and just enjoying the splash of water droplets from the filter on his basking rock. I went to sleep and this morning woke up to find him floating in the water . an hour later i saw him still floating in the same spot and not moving , i picked him up with no response. How can i tell he is not dead? I placed him on his basking rock and hoping that he will wake up.

If he is limp and eyes sunken in, then I'm afraid he's passed. What else is in the tank?

he hasnt woken up, his eyes arent sunken in. Sand and river rocks as substrate. I read in another forum that a turtle went into hibernation and woke up 3 months later but im not so sure thats the case here. His shell does feel a little soft and i see some white "blisters" for lack of better term, almost like a wart. Im thinking maybe he was sick from the pet shop i got him at. they had 6 baby turtles in a 10 gallon tank, 2 RES and the rest were YBS.

I suppose you can wait and see but baby RES do not usually hibernate.
