HI everyone I need help. I cannot afford to take her to the vet right now but I noticed that she floats sideways and she hasnt ate in a couple of days and all she does is just float on top of the fake plant. Is there anything I could do to help her out? I can take her to the vet maybe next week but I don't know if I'm going to have enough I have alot of bills to pay and you know bills if there late they charge you. Thanks everyone

You can try bumping up the water temperature a few degrees (82 is fine), but honestly that is all you can do..it sound's like you're turtle is very ill, a vet is probably it's only shot at life. The sooner you take it to a vet, the more likely it will survive..good luck.

Probably a congested lung, since it is swimming crooked. Search RI (Respiratory Infection) on this forum. You will find that it is a very severe illness that can only be cured by a vet.

Improper water temperature, and drafts are one of the few reasons (you will find more info on the health section on the main site) that cause it. And yes, with treatment from a vet ASAP, she can be cured.

Exactly. I suspect the turtle has a collapsed lung which is why he is floating sideways. This condition results from turtle pneumonia & can only be cured by a vet with antibiotics. Before you say that you can't afford a vet, why don't you call a few and find out what they charge? Also, many of them will work out payment plans for you too. You just have to ASK the questions to find out since each vet is different.

Also, there was an article in Feb.'s "Jane" magazine called "how to make $1000 in 5 days without landing in Jail." Check it out from your local library if you have to & you will see that even if you don't have a job, there are still other opportunities to make money legally.

Hi everyone. I made a thousand calls to vets on the lists on the website and ALOT of them are outdated some dont see turts anymore. anyways I made an appt for tommorow at 8 am with a doc that told me 5out of 6 hatchlings make up because of her kind of treatment. Her treatment is feeding thru a syringe giving shots and the turt is going to stay at the clinic, so I asked for a quote but said they would give it to me tommorow so I'm thinking its going to cost me an arm a leg and my two eyes!!!!!!!!!!!! but get this what made me make the appt was that my mom has a care credit acct and they take it yayyy so the only thing is that they will take it because my mother is not here shes in mexico :O( please say a prayer that they take it and dont say anything please. THanks to everyone again I will keep you updated on what happens tommorow.

THank you. I appreciate your good vibes coming our way. Well none of my turts have a name :O( maybe you guys could name them for me :OP I don't mind :O) So I went to the vet this am and she saw her and she offered a frozen cube of brine shrimp and my turt went and got two tiny bites from it. but not much then the doc told me that she would like to hospitalize her and tube feed her dog or cat wet food. She showed me how she does it but it takes alot of patience to get the tiny turts mouth to open. So she got her to open it and squeezed some food. She is worried about her not eating and i asked about a possible respiratory infection and she said mayabe but wasnt too concerned about that. she said she might give her a shot of antibiotics So since this doc does not work on weekends she is going to take my turt home and call me everyday with updates i thought this doc is wonderful so the days she takes her home she is going to charge me $40 so we are looking to get her back by tuesday of next week So that money I am going to pay her so what am i going to do.... Hooefully I can work something out with her or have the money by then. I cant ask hubby for money for turt because he dosnet like I have animals and gets very angry about it. So this is my update so keep those good thoughts and prayers please. I will keep u all updated when I hear from the doc. Thanks again to all.
