I have three turtles: Shelby the Leprechaun, Myrtle, and Franklin. There all seem to be in good health and haven't been acting strange. But yesterday, I noticed two red spots on each of the hind leg's skin. (make sense?). It's only of Shelby the Leprechaun, but I'm unsure of what it is. She's not acting any differently, and goes on throughout her day swimming and basking. Anyone have any idea what may be wrong with my baby?

*I promise I'll get a picture later today, I don't currently have my camera with me*

Thanks for those who reply.

Septicemia usually shows up on the bottom of the shell (plasteron) first. Sounds like irritation to me or maybe one of the tankmates bit her? Post a pic when you can.

I'm also guessing they are bites. My male seems to like biting there... is it sensitive if you touch that area?

How big are your turtles (shell lengths without the curves) and how big a tank are they in?

Where on the legs are the red areas, and are they in the same place on both of the legs? Do the areas look rubbed or is the skin actually broken? If the redness is in the same area on each of the legs, the skin could be rubbing against the shell or some other surface. Nipping from another turtle is also possible. That pic would be helpful...

Not sure what to make of it, but pic #1 looks like it could be infected.....Do the others show any sign of aggression or dominance towards Shelby? Does Shelby avoid them or act defensive around the others? It dosent look like fungus to me.....
If it is just irritation, try dabbing a little Neosporin on it, and maybe dry-docking for a while. But if she's being bitten, you may have to seperate her.

It looks like turtle bites to me... you have three turts... and I remember you said you had them all in a 20 gallon, and I told you the proper 10 gallon per inch per turt, and most of your turts are at least 3 inches... and then you said I was wrong, and that your vet said that 20 gallons was enough.

hmmm, looks like your turts are cramped, adding to their aggression and they need to be separated, and you need the proper size tank... and now your turt has been injured as a result.

10 gallons per inch per turt ..... great rule! :)

Ammonia thing?
This could be a long shot, but does Shelby like to hang around the heater? Maybe "wedging" herself against it? They love doing stuff like that.

Is there anything sharp in the tank that he could have scratched himself with? I seriously would take him to a vet, it looks pretty bad. Bite, scratch, burn...doesnt matter, it needs to get treated.

Thats big enough for your turt thats like 4-5 inches. Now you just need to get tanks for the other two. :)

a lot of people have been telling me to seperate them, but too be honest with you, the little one doesnt seem to like being alone, they like seem so used to each other.

Because they are concerned, you're not right next to them 24/7. Anything can happen while you are away. Turtles arent like dogs, they enjoy space to them selves. Remember that.
