Looks like pics I've seen of an ear abcess. If that's what it is, you'll need to get him to a vet to have it lanced.

Yes, bill's got ear abcesses. Here's a thread on it. Read about half way down and you'll see pictures and discussion:

http://www.austinsturtlepage.com/Care/medeyes.htm

This is something that a vet will have to treat - you can't do it at home. And it's causing your turtle pain, and will eventually be fatal if not treated.

The good news is that if treated in time it's completely curable.

Good luck. Keep us posted.

Take out the gravel ASAP. It's dangerous for them, they can swallow and fail to poop it out.

I don't think it's contageous but if your other turtle bumps into Bill it could be very painful. I think it would be best to separate them if you can since Bill is kind of sick right now. After the abcesses have been drained you'll need to keep Bill dry and in a separate place for a few days while the wounds heal. The vet should advise you on this.

Just because you never had a problem with it - doesnt mean you wont. You dont watch your turtles 24/7..anything can go on. You can keep the gravel, sure..but when your turtles stomach gets full of gravel and your going through xray after xray..dont come crying to us, man. Just the honest truth.

So many people have said "oh well they never ate it" then they find out otherwise..

The turtle needs to see a herp vet to have that abcess lanced and drained. The abcess is putting pressure on surrounding tissues, and will make it increasingly uncomfortable, if not painful, for him. He'll likely be given antibiotics as well. Let us know how he does.
