Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I think they just get sucked in there. It's pretty common, especially those with outdoor setups. Re: eggs ... I wouldn't be the first time I've heard of that speculation but I have not had it happen to me personally.

It is an inside set up. It’s not the pond. The worm was alive so definitely not one of the frozen ones. Just very strange.

For the juvenile turtle I’m thinking veggies every day and smaller portions of protein 4 x a week. For the adult or sub adult turtle on my other post I’m thinking veggies everyday with 2 maybe 3 days of smaller portions of protein. Would this be ideal or should I increase protein intakes? I have seen posts with people still feeding both veggies and proteins everyday just in small portions. And I’m aware adult turtles don’t need as much food or protein. Ps- the juvenile turtle is taking veggies pretty easily now. I blanched are first and he would take a bite but lately I just put small pieces to float and he chowed down like it was his pellets. Also bought veggie clips and he’s really taking an interest in lettuces.

I try to use both veggies and a small portion of pellets almost everyday, but sometimes they get bored of it or are seasonally not interested (e.g. winter). I can only guess if I need to adjust the diet when I examine them... too heavy, or a little bit of fat around the limbs. With younger turtles you need to observe their shell growth as well. Overall, if you were to feed about every day, I would probably use the 1/3 or 1/4 head amount of pellets.

How about veggies? I think I saw a post of yours of a picture of lettuce you had and if I remember correctly it was roughly shell length of the turtle?

For veggies, I mostly use red leaf lettuce. They weren't as interested in other lettuces and they seem to have lost a bit of appetite in this warm weather. So how much they get and how much they eat would vary.

Ok gotcha. Yeah they seem to be loving the red leaf lettuce and green leaf. Unfortunately I’ve really only been able to find red leaf lettuce in one place and that’s about an hour away. My local Walmart doesn’t even sell it. I recently got squash, zucchini, and cucumbers chopped them up to mix float them on the top and they do alright. The Juvenile takes to the floating chunks better than the adult. How would you supplement the veggies? I’d imagine the powders would just wash right off.

You can blend it together to make your own treats, I don't think there is a better way to do it with veggies.
