I'm using an XP3, i cant just crack it and find that out. The only thing i can say is, there is a strainer on the end. I really REALLY hope the snail/eggs would be caught in the strainer.

Speaking of my XP3, my intake tube has some crap on in it. Right by the plastic intake section, and down where it attaches to the filter... Any ideas on how to get rid of this?

EDIT: Just called the petstore, and found out there is a product called "Had-A-Snail" This will kill any and all snails. When i asked if it was harmful to my turts, they didnt know. But as of now (fingers crossed) there are no snails in my turtle tank. I'll see if my turtles will eat a snail after their after mealtime nap.

dont buy it until you are certained it will not affect your turtle, perhaps you can go to the pet store look for a number on the bottle and call customer service?

and about the filter i dont know,i figured out why my water was cloudy i called tetra and they said since i did a full water change(and your not supposed to) i have new tank syndrome.im buying an aquarium testing kit later to keep on eye on ammonia.

Muriner, how big are these snails? Do you have a pic? I cant believe they would hatch overnight... yeah xsaving is right. dont use it unless you are possitive it would hurt your hurt. I would even take your turt out, put him in a temp set up. Then do a complete changing after that just to be sure. I would love to see pics if you have them. Flutterby is right, there is no way it came from the veggies from the store. Could you imagine having hundreds of snails in your stomach after you ate a salad? ewww.

When I used the XP3, it used to be full of tiny snails when I opened up to clean it. They never posed a problem to my turtle or the filter.

Well the snails are small, i'll check on pictures very soon, i gotta study for real this time lol. But one is probably 1/4 of an inch and the rest are under that.

But they are only in the guppy tank which is ok for now. What about feeding the snails to the turtles? Sounds like an idea to me. ideas on how to?

They will get in your XP3 as they did mine. They overran my tank originally. I completely emptied the tank and dried it. Took everything that was inside of the tank and scrubbed it under scalding hot water. Took the filter apart and scrubbed everything in it under scalding hot water. Rinsed all the media in scalding hot water. I cleaned everything til I could see any more egg sacks. Obviously I missed one and being exposed to scalding hot water doesn't seem to kill them nor does being dried out.

They are back again but they are not overrunning the tank this time so I am letting them stay. They come out at night and feed. When the lights come on in the morning you can see them scurrying to hide before the big green monster finds them.

But you can give them to your turtles. They sit on pieces of lettuce in Tilly's tank and ride around feeding on it. If Tilly takes a bite out of the lettuce, he sometimes gets some snails (and extra calcium).

So are they unhealthy for the turts? You said you cant give them to them, but they ate one on lettuce.. Do you mean you cant feed them snails because they are bad?

In the wild, turtles would eat them. There is a chance that snails carry flukes (a parasite), and some people do not include live ones in their turtles diets. You can buy them in a can, but they have the shells removed and your turtle won't get that bit of extra calcium from the shell.

I said you CAN give them to your turtles. I don't have a problem letting my turtles eat the small ones that have bred in the tank.
