General Care Discussion :: "Tired of Caring For Him"

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Kijiji has been a wonderful resource for us (we were selective and careful of course). We've set up our male RES Juvenile in a 40 gallon, and our female in a 70 gallon. The 40 costs us $50, and the 70 cost us $75.

The 40 was pretty much ready to go, but the 70 required about a week's worth of scrubbing and cleaning and preparing. Total cost ended up being about $100 after we re-caulked, took out the built-in basking site, and properly cleaned it thoroughly.

Also, our female was a rescue- in the same size tank yours is in, with the same basking site. The photo was a flashback. We had her upgraded immediately, thanks to Kijiji.

One thing I should mentioned, that I forgot to in my post above - the cost is more than just the tank - you'll need to upgrade the filter as well. Your total cost (if you shop well on Kijiji) will be about $160.

I posted this ealrier but then i realized there were five more pages of posts i didint see, so what i said befre was kind of random. anyways this is the revised, new version:
I find my turtle gets bored too. This is what i do to make my turtle less bored, and its cheap:
find rocks around your house or in parks that are a good size (like bigger then its head) and then boil them in a pot of water on the stove for like 10-15 minutes to serialize them. then put them in the tank. Im pretty sure this is safe, but not positive. but ive done it for years and never had trouble. Every interesting place i go i find a new rock/shell/piece of coral for my turtle, its like souvenirs. Avoid anything sharp though obviously. my turtle loves exploring the new stuff, and poking it with his nose and pushing it around the tank. I put a piece of drift wood in too and that was a real hit. he loved sitting on it.
