Habitat - Indoor :: ok which tank would be better ?

ok i just got done changing the water in kermies tank and i was thinking about what marisa and steve said i know it would be better wider than taller ( the aquarium ) but do you think that 30 gallon hex agon would be better then the 10 gallon i got ? even though it night have a not so bad space to swim horazontal. I would say the same if not a bit more then the10 gallon. so let me know what you think. thanks guys!

just thinking agian dont know why i didnt think of it earlier i also have a 35 or 39 gallon tank that is a flat back octogon. it is a nice wide tank do you think that one would be better ?

30 gallons no matter the shape is better than 10.. there's still more water. Horizontal space for swimming is better.. but more space is always better no matter what kind.

a lot of those hexagonal tanks aren't made to hold water so be careful.

ok i think mine would be for fish since i got it at a wholesale fish place. I would hope . I am friends with the people and they only sell fish stuff so hopefully it will be ok.

You could always check with them to be sure (but if it's made for fish it should be OK). Put Kermie in the 30-gallon if possible. How deep is it, BTW?

ok the 30 gallon hexagon measurments are 24 inches deep and is 18 inches front to back and sides
my 35 or 40 is 36 inches across 14 inches deep and 16 front to back . so you think the 30 hexagon would be the best for now.

Wait a minute--you have two tanks, one is a hexagon that's 24 inches deep (meaning high) and 18 inches side to side (i.e., tall but not much length) and one is a regular tank 35-40 gallons with what measurements--the length is 36 inches and the width is 16 inches? The tank with more surface area (longer length and width) is better because your turtle will have more horizontal swimming room, not vertical swimming room.

I had thought the choice was originally between the 10-gallon and the 30-gallon...

ya I have a couple tanks. they all have fish or the turtle in it but the 30 hexagon cause i dont have a stand for it , my husband is suppose to build me one. I think i am going to put him in the 35 40 gallon like you said just because there is more side to side swimming. I have fish in the tank right now but i will just have to do a switch er roo on them. I posted on this site where you can put stuff up that you need and if someone has one and they want to get rid of it they can contact you so hopefully I will be getting a 55 or bigger. for now though he isnt even 2 inches across yet so i have time.

I guess I was thinking of the really big ones. At my local pet store they keep the guinea pigs and rabbits in a really big hexagonal tank and i made a comment about how that would be so neat for my turts. The girl there said they're not made to hold water and it would break. That one was easily 100gal size tho.

ok i know what ones you are talking about now. and i have just come across a free 55 gallon tank so i am just so excited !! he wont know what to do going from a 10 to 55 tank. i have to pick it up next week so i am just sooooo excited. guess i will put fish in the other ones.
