Habitat - Indoor :: CLoudy Water, white froaty bubles

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hey Folks,

I'm new here tried the search got no answers. My Pregnent wife has got me on Turtle duty. I just cleaned the tank and now the water is cloudy and has a Froathy white foam floating in the tank. Does anyone know what that is. It's a 60 gallon fish tank that has filled about 1/3 of the way. I have cleaned this tank for the past year and I did every thing like I normally do. But I have never seen this. We have a Calcium tablet in there and he has 3 filters.

Any Suggestions

Why is the tank only filled 1/3 of the way? I'd fill it up as deep as I could without the possibility of the turtle escaping. What sort of calcium tablet do you have in the tank? What sort of filters do you use? Any changes at all in the setup or cleaning routine? Sorry for all the questions but sometimes it's just a process of elimination until you figure out the problem/solution :)

Oh and Welcome to the forum :)

Have the calcium tables always been used? How are you cleaning the media (if you are)? Have you used anything different to clean the tank (what do you use when you clean the tank, if anything)?

I also had a calcium tablet in my tank and experienced very similiar conditions. The "froth" or spit you are seeing on top of the tank is simply air bubbles that cannot escape because their is a slick on top of your water. Similiar to when u see oil floating on top of water. I originally thought it was the tablet but it isnt. In my case it the clorine/cloramimine stabilizer i was using. I cut back on the stuff and my froth problem went away. Algae build up on the surface of the water can also contribute to this. Did you use soap when you cleaned your tank? Maybe too much... There is oil in soap..

Using soap of any kind isn't good--it leaves a residue that's really hard to get rid of and could be harmful to your turt. Try cleaning with white vinegar and water and rinse well afterward.

Thanks for the ideas. I cleaned the Filter, Tank, and Rocks with just hot water and good ols man power. The reason my tank is 1/3 full is because my 5yo turtle is lazy. If I put more water he will not go on the basking area. I do use a calcium tablet. I have not changed the routine for cleaning. I noticed that his shell is shedding could this be causing the the cloudiness

thanks

He is shedding scutes (the plates on the shell)? I doubt this is affecting the water quality from what you described.
