Hey everyone;

OK I caved; I bought a 55 gallon tank off of craigslist from this dude in the city. I cleaned it, and it looks spectacular.

I also bought that Basking area that EVERYONE has (with the little down ramp).....So I have two questions;

1. My fluval 304 is good for this 55 gallon right? Please say yes it was expensive. (I am also putting in a bubble wall for help)

2. What is a good thing to put in the 55 gallon (all i have is the bubble wall, basking area and heater) aka should I put in like a cave or something?

THANKS! i will put pictures up once it is up and running

I'm not sure on the filter, so I'll leave that for someone else. But as far as what else to put in, I'd say a few river rocks, something he could push around. And some plants to hide in and rest on. For a few more ideas, go "window shopping" through the photo gallery. There's some really good setups in there. I sometimes just look back through because it's been a while since I viewed them, and then I get new ideas all over again. :)

How big is your turtle? How much water do you have in the tank? Are you feeding your turtle in the tank? These and other factors will affect how much waste the filter will have to handle. To be efficient, a filter should be rated for 3X the size of the tank. I don't know offhand the tank size range the 304 is recommended for (should be on the box), but this will be for a tank with fish, not turtles (which are much messier).

You'll have to try it a while and see how it works. If it's not powerful enough, there's always the option of adding a supplemental filter (like an Aquaclear power filter) if you don't want to buy another one.
