20 gallon? thats still going to be to small, dont go 10,20,29,30,40,50...until you get to 120, cause it will cost you a fortune, craigslist.org has some good deals there, check it out. Also, search the previous posts, theres a search link in my sig for searching, it would help to cut down on repatative posts.

How big is he now (shell length from tip to tip not including curve)? Remember 10 gallons per inch of turtle is the minimum tank size you should go with when getting a new tank, but you must also remember that a mature turtle will need much more space than a young one so planning ahead isn't a bad idea and will save you money in the long run.

At maturity your RES will need at least a 90 gallon (if male) to 120 gallons (if female). Going as large as you can now, will save on upgrading costs as he grows.

There's many places to look for used tanks that can save you some money such as classifieds and craigslist.org, but there are also other options such as stock tanks and such. Do some research and planning before upgrading so you can get the most for your money. :)

If your res is growing fast.perhaps you are feeding them too much! It's unhealthy for a res to grow fast!
