Try the visi-therm stealth heaters. They are shatter proof.. extremely accurate and have a built in mechanism to shut off if the water level gets too low. I've had them for over a year now with absolutely no problems. I don't think I'll ever use another type of heater again. I recommend buying them online though as they are rather pricey in the stores. Try Big-Al's or Drs. Foster and Smith.
