^^^Love your avvie btw.

PatriciaTheora, that is weird. Of course, I buy my powersun bulb off Amazon or from Petco so I can't really speak to the other bulbs.

I agree, even though big box stores (petsmart/petco/amazon) have higher prices on bulbs they have great return policies.

Has anyone tried a ceramic heat emitter like this http://www.amazon.com/Zoo-Med-ReptiCare ... supplies_4 and a CF UVB bulb combo? Since the ceramic heater isn't a "bulb" it may last longer.

Check out products locally, then buy it online.. or ask us first :P

Devilduck, I used to use a ceramic heat emitter. I didn't like them because they would not last as long as a bulb and you would not know it if it wasn't working. A nice, warm light bulb balances nicely against the light from a CFL.

There is a new bulb emerging on the market. It's a metal-halide that produces UVB. I will be making a post soon to explain their benefits and the advantages of these bulbs. I agree with Steve, if you have a shop that holds a good amount of supplies. Go look and then shop online to buy. I kinda do that, but I find supplies online, then go to Amazon or one of the big suppliers and get the cheapest deal available. I do this because I find more info online about a product than some pet store personnel. I research a porduct I'm interested in before buying it, and then I research it again to make sure I wanna send money on it, lol. I save money doing this, I find I don't buy half the junk out there because I really don't need the sale pitch they are giving for their product;) Sorry, I went on a small ramble there!

They have amazing return policies, but I've bought and taken back so many bulbs, platforms, heaters and basic necessities to keep my babies in tip top turtle shape that I've lost count. This blew my mind, I had a bulb blow a while ago, and I returned it and exchanged it for a new one, the woman put the blown bulb back on the shelf..i was like..whaaat.. O______O

*smacks forehead* Yeah putting it bck, not cool. Although I wonder what they did when I returned that heater? It was too hot (couldn't adjust it off of 76) for Sheldon. They took it back.

You took it back to PetSmart? As long as you told them that it was messed up they shouldn't have put it back on the shelf. I think it's just my local PetSmart that hire's people who don't know that blown bulbs are unusable. Lol

I took it back to Pets Supplies Plus. It wasn't messed up but I did have it in the tank. I cleaned it before giving it back but still....

That could be true about your PetSmart. lol
