Habitat - Indoor :: Odd Tank Issue with Surface Slime

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

So I have a 125 gallon tank with twin Fluval 406 filters. Outlets are on one end of the tank pointed towards the other end, which has the inlets. The outlets are about 4-5" below the surface, and the inlets are about an inch or two above the bottom. I don't use gravel, have no natural plants, and just a few sparse tank decorations, allowing mostly for plenty of swimming room. Water clarity in 99.9% of the tank is pristine, but on the surface I am getting little (less than an inch wide) pools of whitish slime. It seems the Fluval filters push impurities to the surface, or is something else happening? The turtles are happy, it just bugs me. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can get a protein buildup on the surface. Try pointing one of your outlets so the return breaks the surface a bit.

It could also be some shed skin... I routinely have to net that stuff out.
