Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hello, I'm an brand new to turtles but I'm learning quick. My RES is about 1 1/2 inches right now and I've got him in a 30 gallon tank that I bought off craigslist for $75 (w/ stand). I realize this wont be sufficient for too long but until we buy a house, I'm making do.

Right now Turk loves his tank. I'm glad I went with sand because he seems to enjoy digging holes in it. I've got the Fluval U3 in there (huge!) and a fake plant that he's always laying on. Any recommendations? I'm thinking of getting the out of water basking area that I saw on Amazon. I have no intentions of buy more RES's since they may fight and I don't want multiple tanks. How long do you think this tank will house him?

Welcome! Your set-up looks good. Keep in mind that if you buy a Turtle Topper, it probably won't fit your larger tank when you upgrade.

Welcome! You can probably continue using the tank until you can sex him/her. Once you know the gender, you can do one more upgrade to a forever home.

When can you normally sex them? He's so small right now you can't even see him in the picture lol. What is the biggest size tank the turtle topper can fit?

I think toppers fit 55 gallons (or 12" wide) but I think someone here has modified it to fit a larger tank. When the turtle is close to 4" long, you should be able to tell.
