I have tried two different retail basking platform solutions and neither really works. One is way to hard for my turtle to get on and watching him struggle is tough. The other was foam and was destroyed. I don't have the desire to build something too elaborate and searching the forum I saw some using pieces of cork bark. I am wondering how long you have been using them and for those that have been a while what your thoughts are and if it might be the right item for me. thanks...

Also if you found a retail one you liked please let me know which it is.

If your turtle destroyed the foam one zoo med? I can't see cork bark making it very long. You might consider an above tank basking area.

Try one of the penn plax brand basking docks. I use the large one and it's easy for my turtle to get on, is durable, and it can handle a lot of weight. It also is fairly priced.

What size tank do you use the large one in?

I've been using a large cork bark "log" for about 8 or 9 months now. I suspect I'll have to replace it eventually, but it still looks and floats like the day I put it in there. If you go that route, you'll probably get quite a bit of wear out of it.

Can your turtle climb on top the log and bask? When I looked at them I figured it would roll.

What size tank do you use the large one in?

I use mine in a 40 gallon but you probably shouldn't use the large size in anything smaller than a 40 gallon because of how big it is.

Erik, how big is your tank? Resin platforms are great in smaller tank and for larger tanks you can look into acrylic basking areas. For my tanks, I use cork bark and the other has PVC/tile.

Right now I have a 29 gallon tank. I measured out that plax one and it would take up almost the entire tank. I like the look and the natural of the corkbark but the resin is easier to clean I am assuming. Which brand resin platforms do u recommend? and do u have a picture of your cork bark setup on here?

Penn plax has a smaller version in a triangle shape

I don't have a pic of my bark, it's simply a wedge that spans the width of the tank.

Only issue I have with those kind is I have to keep the water level low and my turtle seems to like to swim. That store website link you sent had a lot of options, they have a location about 20minutes away from me. I think I will go over there tomorrow and see what they have in person. Its hard to tell from pictures on the web how it will fit in a tank. Thanks for your help and if I get something worked out I will post a picture.

Is the underneath safe for an 8" slider? Any chance of it getting stuck? Looks like the answer to my solution.

Is it the Turtle Pier or do they have something else? It does look like those need to be used with extra caution.

I have the turtle pier. The underneath is safe. I don't see how they could get stuck. It is a great basking pier she uses it all the time.
