Habitat - Indoor :: adding minnows, ok?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hi guys,

I am building a plant growing tank to grow aquatic leafy stuff for my RES to eat. it's kind of fun.

but, I put fish in the plant tank, and then I learned all about the pains of having an aquatic plant tank with fish in it, more than I want to deal with!

so I'm taking them out.

my question is, can I put half a dozen or so minnows in the turtle tank? well of course I can do it, but to what effect? my RES is a bit slow moving and the minnows are pretty fast, so they could last a long time and even have babies, then I'd have a whole school of minnows.

my major concern is all the "fertilizer" that would be created, and when some of them die off (because some will die), will a dead minnow be "unhealthful" to the RES?

Thanks for your insights!

It should be fine. Any filter setup for turtles will easily handle fish waste. Not sure if a dead minnow will be unhealthy, but people use them all the time.
