So I had no time to work on the tank this weekend =\ So here's a picture of Tomi instead:

I measured him, he's about 6.75". When I got him 5 years ago he was about 5".

Looking good. Any signs of melanism?

Yeah, the plastron is getting blotchy. The black color is slowly spreading.

Finally had some time this weekend. I reinforced the stand and attached some screws to the existing pieces. I transferred Tomi from one tank to the other. I also cut some wood pieces for the "wall" I'm building on top of the tank so that I can fill it up to the top without worrying about Tomi escaping/falling out :) But I will finish that next week. I didn't feel like going out in the rain to sand and paint.

Here is how I reinforced the stand. There's one of these pieces in each corner and the middle as you see here:

After that I transferred the sand and filled the tank. Put the heater in there and a thermometer... I have well water so it's cooold! I also set up a temporary basking spot with the cork bark and some eggcrate on top so Tomi can't get out. The lamp in the picture is only the heat lamp for now... I wanted to check the temperatures. (I turned it off for the picture).

I almost forgot... hubby changed the outlet to a GFCI... I didn't get a picture of it... but things are nice and safe now.

Temporary basking area. I'll still use this corkbark but it'll be higher up in the tank. So... I guess the eggcrate is what's temporary.

Here's Tomi wondering why his house looks so different.

Once I fill up the tank I'll be able to set up the thermometer completely vertical.

I should finish it up next weekend! :D

Sorry I haven't posted any pictures... I will. There's a nasty cold going around my house and I haven't been able to post anything. It's looking good though. :)

Sanding the pieces for the top of the tank:Image
Put it together, then paint:

I also got some thin plexi glass cut to fit the front of the tank. Here's the tank:

I'm planning on hanging the lights. I also added a bubble wand but this is pretty much it.

So this only raises it a few inches? Pretty nice, I don't think I've seen this on a bow front before.

Yes, I really only wanted to make it so I could raise the water level all the way up without Tomi escaping. I realize the water is a little low in the picture, it's just b/c I hadn't topped it off and it was hot this weekend. I didn't want anything bulky on top but I didn't want the water level low b/c it leaves all those nasty water marks. We've been fixing up our house and I wanted the tank to be another piece of furniture.

Nice, I usually recommend this type of layout over a full ATBA as well.
