Would it be possible to buy two fifty gallon filters for my tank instead of a one hundred gallon filter? I already have a 50 gallon filter, and would like to save money by purchasing another...but would it work?

I'm using two filters myself. Cleaning is more of a hassle, though it's nice to have filters on the opposite sides of each other. What kind are you looking at?

We too are using two filters. Steve is right, it is more of a hassle to clean. But when you can't afford to go and buy a xp3. You just have to work with what you can afford.

I received some kind of filter in a 55 gallon aquarium for fish. I really like the Tetra Whisper filters, because they are quiet and easy to clean.

I've seen scores of those Tetra filters at the Wal-Mart (closest thing). They are kind of tempting to buy but are they adequate for turtle tanks?

I have one from walmart that is made for a 30 gallon and it doesn't keep up with my breeder guppies and snails to well. It's kind of frustrating really. If I could afford another rena, I'd get the xp for that tank. But it isn't a priority right now.

I've got a 30-60 gallon Tetra Whisper Filter in my tank and I love it. Keeps the water clean and you can really see where the filter is taking out the gunk! I plan on getting another one for my 40 gallon tank that I just got. That way I don't have to go out and buy a 120 gallon filter (why keep buying filters when you can just combine your old ones..unless the breaker won't hold it and then goes off....)

But I love mine. It works well for my turtle. Plus it provides him with a bubble wall!!

I LOVE the Whisper brand! I've used nothing but their products for the past four years...They're easy to use, and they really keep the water clean. :)

I agree with the whisper filters. i bought it with my first set-up and then when i upgraded i bought a aquaclear of the equivalant filtration rating to the whisper(was on sale for cheaper than online prices). just say the whisper does a way better job, seems to suck more crud up than the aquaclear. and both are at the max filtration rate, and the whisper has way more water comming out of the waterfall.
