I received my rescue a short while ago and am temporarily housing her in our tub. Mz Turtz has seen the vet - has a deformed shell with some shell rot. I am looking for a nice habitat to set up a lovely home and have plenty of space in my basement. She is 6 inches and am looking at affordable 100 gallon stock tank. I need to know what type of filter would be best to use with the tank on the floor. My understanding is the canister types need to be below the water and this size tank would need to be on the floor. Your help is greatly appreciated as I would like to get her out of the tub ASAP.
Also, she refuses to bask but I purchased a docking station that is not stable and she seems to feel insecure on it. Along with her daily scrub regimen recommended by the vet I am giving her injections of Baytril every five days. Her eyes are clear, she is active and is little miss piggy when it comes to chow time. I feel those are all good indicators that she will be on the road to recovery although I think she views scrubs and injections as Chinese torture!!! I have been taking her outside when sunny - later in the day and have her get UV exposure since she doesn't bask in tub. I make sure she does not overheat and supply her with plenty of brush to hide under. I just starting intermittently putting her in water, then sun, then water to also help regulate temp but to make sure she gets UV. Any thoughts on this? Anyone else done this with success until their turtle started to bask?
Thanks for any and all help as I am very new to taking care of her!
