Habitat - Indoor :: Fluval 406 refuses to fill

So here I am having a night to clean Sheldon's tank and for some reason the Fluval 406 won't suck in water when I press down the Aqua Valve. The valve locks into place but when I push the gray bar down the filter should fill but it doesn't. I tried priming it, thinking that I could get it started. It didn't work.

I tried taking apart the filter and putting it back together but it still won't work. What do I do?

Bad luck isn't the word for your filter problems!! Is the filter full of water when you plug it in? Are the valves in the open position? I know that question sounds stupid but I've done dumber things. Is the impeller spinning? Well at least you can get a little chuckle out of this. I'm still waiting to get my Api filter back. Its been 6 weeks

I have always let the filter fill itself. I put the filter with media in it only, close the lid, plug in the aqua stop valve, lock it into place, and then pull the gray lever down. Filled on it's own last time. Now it won't do it. I tried to plug it in and all the impeller did was grind. No pulling of water.

6 weeks? Good grief. It said 30 days on the paperwork.

You need to take the impeller out and see if the magnet around it is broken or something is in there with it. My impeller was broken on my Api. I hope that's not the case.

Got it! Filled the canister all the way up. Primed it and it worked. Who knows? *shrugs*

Probably some air trapped. Pretty much a canister filters worst enemy
