Habitat - Indoor :: MVB Bulb

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

What is the preferred brand of MVB bulb these days? I used to use T Rex, then stopped when they had quality control problems - and went out of business - and have used various types since then. The last bulb I got was an Exo Terra, which lasted all of a month. I'm reading not such good things about it. Has there been good professional evaluation lately? What's the opinion as to the best type for a basking turtle?

Mega Ray. As far as I know nothing comes close. Also the only way to buy the bulbs is from their web site. Another nice thing about them is that's all they do, lighting. Welcome back I noticed you have been absent since 2009.

Travis, They are not cheap but the best you can buy. Others will tell you or just do a search.

MVB pros
- more uvb output than any other type
- heat + light
- should last longer

Cons
- expensive
- need better fixtures
- need to have it pointed straight down

Thank you Steve. It's wonderful to see so many familiar posters still around. I recommend this site every chance I get. It's still the best.

For a while the powersun was the only real bulb left but it looks like MegaRay might have come back to life.

Powersuns suck for lack of a better word. Just look at the reviews on Amazon. I wouldn't buy one. And I still need to buy a Megaray!
Darn someone buy my fx and I will.

When t-Rex was gone and mega ray was not shipping all that was left was powersun and Exo terra. Powersun was the only choice for a long while. And while they're not great bulbs you did get a warranty. I too will be buying mega Ray since they're now shipping again.
