After much research, snooping on the forums and thinking, I've constructed the attached basking area from egg crate and zipties. I *think* both girls have been up basking (viewed from a camera we have in the room), but it's tough to tell who is who from that distance. They spend a lot of their time swimming around though (most of the day).

Today my husband coaxed one up onto the platform while we were in the room and we were able to watch how she exited - which involved basically falling out of the platform and into the tank without utilizing the ramp. Eeeks. I somehow need to make the ramp more stable...preferably without losing tank space...thoughts? Is there a material that could be attached to the egg crate to make it float but provide further stability...sort of like the attached pic of the NICE tank that isn't mine (seems to be appearing first in the list of pics I've attached)? ;)

If the eggcrate is securely on the bevel of the rim, look into some ceramic tile to weigh it down.

The basking area itself is secure and hasn't moved, it's the ramp that's the issue, as it's only attached with zip ties where it meets the basking area and needs to be more stable. I *think*I may've come up with something and will update if it works!
