Habitat - Indoor :: Tap Water Quality Control

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hey Folks
So here is my more recent research I've been looking into and maybe you can all shed a little light or possible experience in the matter. First off my goal is to treat my tap water prior to being introduced to the tank. I would like to accomplish this without the use of conditioners or chemical treatment. I don't want to add anything to the water, my thought is if I wouldn't drink the water then my turtle shouldn't have to either. The main things I'm trying to remove is the sediment and the chlorine and chloramine from the water and basically anything else that's put into our water, but at the same time I want to keep as much of the good minerals that are good for the turtles health in there. I looked into RO and RO/DI systems but found they aren't great for our turt's and is unstable and would have to add minerals back in. that sounds like a PIMA so scrap that idea. I had a revelation and trying to get to the bottom of my inquiry so here it goes. I looked at all the different RO systems and I had the thought that could I use this system without the RO membrane, basically using the sediment filter and two carbon blocks, no waste water and I can hook up and store the water for W/C and top off's. This system is very similar to a under sink system for drinking water. So think this will work? will I get rid of all the bad and still keep the good? I'd like to go more into this on the carbon block setups and configurations we'll get into that once I see if you guys have done this or can shed more light. thanks in advance.

I just use a single carbon block filter. There is some debate about what all carbon removes. Some argue that it also removes good things. But we have to use something and I don't and won't use so called water conditioners in a bottle! You might call up the company who's filters your looking at and tell them your concerns and let them recommend the best set up for your needs. Hope that helps.

If the water in Ontatio is generally fine, then this should be enough: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33171
