We were installing our new 110 gallon (2nd hand) glass tank yesterday, and one of our helpers accidentally dropped the tank onto the edge of the metal stand!

There is one crack on the bottom of the tank about 2-3" long. This crack is underneath a 1 1/2" piece of glass that is siliconed on top of the actual bottom tank glass and runs along the entire length of the tank. So, the crack is 'sandwiched' between two pieces of glass from what I can tell. I can't feel the crack on either the outside or the inside of the tank.

There is another crack about 1 - 1/2" long on the bottom of the tank. This crack is NOT sandwiched between two pieces of glass. Again though, it seems to be an 'internal' crack as I can't feel anything on either the outside or the inside of the tank.

The tank did have about an inch of water in it at the time the accident happened, and that water did not leak out.

I've since removed all the water to clean up the tank.

I need URGENT suggestions please

a) Can I just assume because the cracks appear to be internal, that is safe to go ahead and fill the tank as normal?
b) Should I run out and buy some aquatic silicone sealant and spread that over a larger area than the actual cracks?
c) Should I buy a decent off-cut piece of glass and silicone that over the cracks?
d) Is there anything else I can do - short of having the entire bottom pane of glass replaced?

We have a turtle who keeps trying to climb out of her existing small tank so we urgently want to get this bigger one up and working.

Thanks so much for your help.

Angela :D

It sounds strange to have a second layer of glass as that adds a lot of weight. Was it a previous fix for something? I would lean towards D but I might not be getting the whole picture.

LOL.

Now that I've read this thread I'm curious what ever happened to the tank. I'm guessing because it was a 110 gallon the bottom glass was tempered and the crack is internal. I guessing you had to have the bottom glass replaced. :-)
