I'm guessing the base rock if intended to cultivate new coral, so it should be used for that purpose. Plastic and live plants won't need something like this.

I disagree. I'd much rather have real plants and less plastic in my turts tank. Luckily she hasn't eaten any I've put in so far - a few nibbles yes but they are surviving nicely.
