Habitat - Indoor :: Escape

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Tobie's tank is in the basement, which unfortunately means we aren't down there as much as we should. It's also a 55 gallon with a stand, so the drop is about 5', luckily onto a filter pad that happened to be in front.

I just saw viewtopic.php?f=6&t=37582 and have admit that gravid is not something I'd even considered. I'm too old for this and she's too young :D I wish I had thought to check, when I found her and she was very calm because of a low body temp. I never handle her, so that check is going to be stressful.

I have noticed, recently within the last few weeks her trying to climb up, but that has only been after a feeding, when I'm nearby but not right next to the tank. Plus, she was staring right at me, so I figured it was just more frantic begging.

The problem is that when I built the ATBA, I didn't extend the plexiglass all the way into the tank area, but then she was only about an inch long then. Now it's more like 6".

Tomorrow or Friday I'll check for eggs. This weekend is a new basking area that will make climbing out much harder.

In between, it's lots of reading on gravid turtles. Why couldn't she pick summer for this!

Sorry. I didn't get the egg check done that weekend. And I was out this week on a business trip.

No eggs. No more escape attempts. She's not even trying to climb up like she had. Maybe the success scared her?

I still haven't redone the basking area.
