Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Hi all. I've had Speedy almost 8 years now, and he's a happy/healthy guy...but over the years, I've had to remove all of the décor from his tank, because he just eats everything. I used to have all sorts of plants and little figurines, and now, nothing - his tank is so boring! I see so many amazing set ups, but I'm curious how you get your turtles to not eat everything in it?

Some turtles are more destructive than others. Are you using anything for substrate?

No, I've taken that out all together because I was struggling with keeping the water quality clean; poop was just getting caught under the rocks I was using, so I just took it out. The only thing in there, is the heater, basking platform and a couple of big rocks that sit in the back.

What kind did you use? Sand seems to be the least problematic. Other than that, I think you will need to have nice backgrounds. What kind of basking area are you using?

How about a big chunk of driftwood? If you get one shaped right, he can hang out underneath, sit on top etc., and I think it looks fantastic. If you can't have a bunch of little busy stuff, KISS- one big centerpiece? I also like backgrounds. The cling backgrounds they sell at the pet store are pretty cool, just find one that you think fits your theme.
