When I first rescued my res, they weren't that interested in basking. Turns out the crazy pet store lady didn't give me a strong enough light. Now that I have the right size, it seems like all they want to do is bask. Every single time I turn around, they're sitting there basking in that completely stretched out and sleeping state. For several hours on end, they just sit there cooking. Can they cook too much, are they making up for the times they never got to bask before, or is this just normal?

If all other behaviour is normal, they're probably just enjoying their new digs. My res will sometimes spend 5 hours a day basking.

What is the basking temperature? If its around 90F, then it should be OK. If its too warm, they might get knocked out from the heat and dehydrate.

Yeah, it's sitting about 86-88 depending on the current room temp. I'm thinking they'll be ok, hopefully they're just really enjoying themselves.
