Winter is coming up and I need to get a heater. Currenty I have a 55g tank w/ two turts. My house is really cold in the winter. Any suggestions?

A lot of people on here suggested the VisiTherm Stealth heater. I bought one and I love it. Petsmart had them on sale last week for $32.99, with the petperks card. I probably could've gotten it cheaper online, but I didn't want to wait. Mine is 250 watt, for up to 75 gallon tanks. I would recommend you go ahead and get that size for your 55 gallon so when you upgrad to a bigger tank, you will already have the wattage you need. If you go bigger than 75 gallons, you can always get an additional heater. Others will be along to give you more ideas. :)

I agree with the above post. I love my stealth. I paid more for mine as well, but it was because I wanted it right then. If you have time to wait, order it online, you can get them a lot cheaper. If you know that you are going to be upgrading your tank soon, then I would save some money and get a larger heater now, but if not, I'd just get one for your size tank and then add a second heater. Shavannah is learning quick!

Dont forget about about air temps. Keep your tank covered in the non-basking areas!

Aww...thank you Missi!
Grey Goose: great idea! I was checking out the water splash problem I'm having with my filter and homemade screen top. I can't afford a canister filter at this time. I thought I could attach some plexiglass under the screen by the filter to prevent it from splashing out of the screen, it's on the oposite side of the basking dock. This way, it'll be covered for the winter too. Weekend project, here I come again, lol.

Thanks for all the info! I'll make sure to look for a stealth heater sometime soon.
