Habitat - Indoor :: building a basking area

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Fri Aug 18, 2006 9:38 pm   building a basking area

I am upgrading my two RES to a 55 gallon tank - which is all the room I have right now. I would like to build a basking area outside of the tank with a ramp leading up to it ( I have seen pictures of this in some members setups but I forget where ). Does anyone have a picture of theirs with instructions I can look at ? Thank you - it would give so much more room for Lady and tramp.

thank you so much ! This is exactly what I wanted( The one for the 90 gallon ) . Now to get my handyman brother-in-law to design it !. How do you clean it ? Does it just lift off and you rinse it out?
Thanks again !

That isn't my design, you'd have to go to that post and ask that person. I would think it could be hosed.

Yes it lifts right off. I designed it so that it fits the inside lip of the top of the tank. I have made a few design changes to that one since then. I replaced the wooden ramp with a longer plexiglass one because the wood was starting to erode even though I sealed it. I also siliconed the shelving liner to the plexiglass. I also added a third bracket in the middle because our turtle loves to sit on the ramp and she is about 9 inches now. She really loves it.

And i've never had to clean it. It doesn't get dirty.

And here is some additional information that I provided to others on how I built it

My hubby is going to make a hood for the lights, and then a basking spot on top, sort of...it's kind of complicated, but I will definately post pictures once it's all done.

ok I have all the materials and Brother-in-law to help build it, will post pictures when done. This is so needed,, Lady and Tramp wiegh down the large size ramp ( that you suction onto the glass ) and practically are falling into the water when basking.
