I would like to make a Homemake Basking Area for my Turtles. They are in a 10 Gallon Tank and the Water is around 70. I have a Heater for them but i need to put more Water in the Tank to use the Heater. The Basking Area they have now is some Rocks. They don't sit on it Often. I don't have a Lamp for them yet either. Just a Hooded Light for a 10 Gallon Fish Tank. I would like to make something till i get get them in a bigger tank. Any Suggestions?

I think that water temp @70 F is way cold for your turtles, that temp needs to go up to 76-78 F. You can also fill up the aquarium as much as you can upto a few inches below the top so the turts don't escape, I guess you can't because you don't have an adequate basking spot.

As far as ideas for basking platforms

Make sure you get a UVB light for them as well. They need that to be able to absorb vitamin D and prevent shell rot.

Go to the photo gallery and check 'Gandalf's new digs'.
This basking setup only cost me $12. You can have the tile cut at the hardware store. You can cut the PVC with a hacksaw. It was pretty easy to do, and my turt loves it!
You can also view other ideas in the photo gallery.
Post a pic of whatever you do when finished! :)
