Habitat - Indoor :: Tetrafauna Aquatic Reptile Heater.

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

First of all hello RES forums. I am a lurker, who has used the forums for info for the past 4 months or so now. Well, I finally have a reason to register and post. I did a search for a review of heaters for terrariums, and I found little information or reviews on any products. Most of you here have large aquariums which will support typical heaters (the glass rod kind) and not alot of submersible heaters.

Winter time is finally rolling around, and Sputnik my RES seemed to be a little gloomy, but not just because of the seasons, but because his water was a bit too cold. I live in So.Cal so the temp was fine until a couple weeks ago, anyway, I just bought this submersible heater which works like a charm thus far. However, I was concerned with the preset temprature of 76-80 degrees. What's your opinion of this setting? Most of you are saying that 75 degrees is the best temp, but this heater was made for turtles.

I was also looking for some kind of thermostat I could hook up to the heater, like an outlet attatchment with a thermometer that could maintain power to the heater to keep the water at a constant temprature (75 degrees).

Comments, Opinions, Answers?

I had a link for the post, but it made it too wide, however if you google search the topic title, that's the exact name of what I'm talking about. Thx!

Just out of curiousity how old is your RES? And what type of enclousre will you have him/her in?

Young turtles need waters that are 78*F, and adults can tolerate lower temps.

He's 7 months old.

I have a 60 gallon terrarum that has about 10-13 gallons of water in it. It's about 3 feet long and foot and a half wide. He and his left over fishfood "Survivor" have lived happily in there for about 2 months.

I'm gonna fill the terrarium up with more water, but I can only fill it halfway before the structural integrity of the enclosure becomes unstable.
