Can my RES lay an egg? She is alone in her 30 gallon tank with no contact with other RES. A few days ago I notice a white egg shape in her tank. Is this normal or just nature taking its course.

Do you know its a "she"? How big is it? If it's big enough to sex it, then 30 gallons is not big enought. 10 gallons for every one inch of turtle shell length (headend to tailend). turtles lay infertile eggs similar to chickens. if your RES had to let one out in the water that prolly means she looking for somewhere to nest...and in fact NEEDS to...so put some peat moss in the tank so your turt can burrow and let her eggs go.

the nesting area has to be dry.

My friend read some where that if my RES (which is a girl) comes in contact with a male RES she can harbor the sperm far a long time. I believe it was a year ago. I've had her for 5 years. Its kinda wierd. Anyone experience the same?
