I was wondering if i could fill a tub about 4 ft by 2 ft with sand and spray it a bit with a spray bottle with water to dampen it for m turtle to stretch his legs. Also would i add a bowl of water so if he is thirsty for a drink or like one half is water and the other half sand?

And i would add a place he can hide if he wants his privacy.

I really wana know cuase i like watching him roam and explore. Just dont wana go outside when its cold or 100°F outside.

I suppose you could, though it seems like a lot of work. Is this something you want to setup temporarily?

Yeah its going to be temp until we get and 40 gallon and use the old 20 gall as the feeder.

Also do you know if i took the plants from outside that are in the ditch roots and all and plant them in the sand if they would survive?

Cuase they have big leaves that my turtle likes hiding under.

If you dont know i might just get a plant pot with sand water it and put the plant in it.

So this would be his regular enclosure? If your turtle is a slider, it needs to have a tank that is mostly water.

his current 20 gal will be his regular enclosure the tub will have like 1/3 sand 2/3 water. so he can get some swimming room just it will be tomorrow afternoon once i get some sand. and i'm going to have a brick at one end to make a cliff since sand makes beaches not cliffs. and a heat lamp with UVB. and once the sand is in ima measure about the L*W*H of the water ima fill it with 5 inches of water since he is a little over 4 inches. and once we get the new tank we can put him in there while we move his stuff in the 40gal so he dont get stressed more than he needs. also i wana ask when putting him in a new tank should i put him on his basking dock and not directly in the water so he can decide to go in the water. ima measure about where i want it to be water. also how do i calculate the gal of water using L*W*H?

oh found the calculator and based on where his basking area will be it can be 8 inches since the 20 gal he has right now is only half full so more like 10-11 gal hes swimming in so yeah. in his 20 gal its about 6 inches high and can easily get a couple of inches out of the water if he stretches his neck and stands can reach 9 inches. also the estemate from the calculator is 12 gal i think it will be more roomy and natural to him since he loves the outdoors and swimming in the ditches tho i dont let him do it often since pollution :(

You're going to need to write down your questions. Cooling water is very expensive, it's better to keep the room he's in cool and his tank away from direct sunlight.

I'd probably just try to get him a 55 gallon and set that up nicely for him. Some people let their turtle walk around out of tank or outdoors on occasion, but they need complete supervision. If that can't be done, just leave them in the tank.
