Thinking of expanding the basking area, since they both seem to struggle over getting on that rock than the one on the left. :|

Yes, you'll want to raise the water and look into a resin platform that's good for small tanks https://www.amazon.com/Zilla-Reptile-Ha ... B004PB8U98

Thanks! I'll invest in a that (Large size) once I get a bigger tank for my turtles.

On a side note, would wood or bark be appropriate material for a turtle to bask on?

Cork bark is fantastic for turtle tanks. It comes as a curved wedge and you can trim it down to fit your tank.

Hmm, I did try to search for that in the pet stores near my location, but unfortunately found none available. Some store did not sell them, or others were quite expensive.

What I did find was a Zoo Med Turtle Dock (small) that was sold here for a decent price. The size fits perfectly into my current tank, and my turtles are happy with it. Now this is their new basking area. :)

I'm not a big fan of those, but you should be able to find cork bark. Florists, hobby shops might carry them.

I'll keep looking. I also agree that the current basking area I have for them is not the best either.

The installations guide on the package instructed me to rinse the dock with water first. Small black particles were falling off the surface to my surprise. I slid a finger over the surface and found that they were in fact, from the surface of the dock and I wasn't sure if I was rinsing it correctly, or if I was holding it in the correct position for the water to run over it. I was using room temperature tap water to rinse them.

Once it was set in the tank and my turtles had basked on it, the particles was sticking to them as well. I discovered that when I moved them to the smaller tank for feeding. Turtle pellet bits and black debris were sinking to the bottom. I was agitated by the possibly of them ingesting those ... whatever material those black particles may be, so I ended up washing the dock thoroughly, and letting it dry before drying it off with a towel and ensuring that there were no excess bits on them that could get onto the turtles or the water.

Another reason for me to not like those. Did you get that resin platform?

Made this with the help of my dad a few years back. He had some extra stainless steel from a job he worked.

She does. She has ended up flipping herself several times. Usually when trying to escape for her egg laying.
