The weight on the dock is fine as long as it still allows him plenty of to bask and very importantly, allows him to completely dry his shell. If the weight on the dock combined with his weight makes the dock sink enough to get wet then you must remove the weight.

Personally, I'm stumped at why he's having a hard time getting on this type of dock. It looks just like the one I have and Koopa has never had a problem getting on it. :? Maybe you should try repositioning it to allow him plenty of room to swim up to the ramp part of it. That's the only tip I can think of. :)

I know Spanky has a little difficulty getting up onto the dock from the sides and back (as his front and back legs seem too far away from each other to both get a grip on the dock at the same time) but at the front of the dock he glides up very easily! The other two can climb on it from any angle!

Not sure, but my female is about 5" and the dock didn't seem sturdy when she was on it.

I like this product, but I agree with the peros upthread who said that it should be inspected as soon as you open the box. The first one I bought was cracked right down the middle. I took it back to the store and got another, that was in 2003 and it has been working fine.

The only problem I have had is one that is common to aquarium equipment: after some time in water, plastic becomes less flexible, so the suction cups that are underwater are not clinging as well to the side of the tub as they used to. They come loose sometimes.

If a turtle is having trouble getting onto the dock, it may be sick. The dock is made to dip lower in the water when they first try to get onto it, making it easier for them to climb all the way on. My vet warned me that a sick turtle can usually not get onto one of these.

i bought one of the zoo med floating docks on christmas eve and a couple of days later my turtle was acting weird. when i leaned in towards her tank to take her out i could smell spray paint really bad and the water had gotten pretty cloudy. i washed it several times before putting it in their water. i couldn't understand it because when i took it out of the box i didn't smell anything. i took it out and went back to my floating log, which they seem to like much more anyways.

Khobbs- that's definitely not normal. Contact Zoo-Med and let them know; I am sure they would want to know.
