I've never found the red heat lights to cause a problem. I usually use 75-watt ESU ones (the regular incandescent bulb, not the spotlight) in the winter with smaller turts. They are not the same as the black lights in that excerpt. I've so far not been inclined to use ceramic heaters (although there is a particular one I'm getting interested in). If you do use the red heat lights, though, be careful (as with any heat lamp) not to let any water on them--they explode very quickly.
