That basking area looks just fine as does the ramp now. What kind of lighting setup do you have? How have you been checking the basking area temp? Also how long as it been since constructing the new ATBA and him not basking?

update. he checked out his ATBA! yay for me!

however, he used it very quickly, like under 1 minute, then he dashed back to the water. i increased the basking area temp to 100F, is this too much? the water temp remained at 82F.

Good news!
He'll warm up to it soon enough. You might want to try giving him a little more cover for privacy so he feels safe.

if i put dumbork on the ramp, the ramp stays still (secured with a zip tie). but then, dumbork will become skittish and dive immediately into the water. i tried putting some pellets on the basking area.

I used zip ties for awhile until the turtles got heavier. I then had to add a structural support under the ramp to keep it from sinking. Glad he started using it, just keep an eye on things as he gets bigger.

Hi,
It seems the ramp of my turtle topper does not have enough traction. My girl starts to go up but can't seem to make it. It's only been 2 days since she is in her new 55 gal tank with the new basking house. When I put her up she looks around and quickly glides back into the tank. Any suggestions or similar turtle behavior? Thanks,
Lilli :msgreen:

How big is your turtle? At some point they do get too big for those turtle toppers.

That being said, does it look like she's struggling to get up or just looking up and not trying? Lots of turtles don't like change. She may nt be ready yet, and two days isn't long.

You could try putting a pellet or two wher she can see/smell it, but had to climb up to get it.

Why won't my turtle bask?
#1 Give it time
#2 Not all turtles bask the same.
#3 Turtles are cold blooded and use the sun or your basking lights to regulate their body temperature so, the basking area needs to be warmer than the water.
#4 Some of this is correct. However if your turtle doesn't comply to these rules its fine. Back to #2..
#5 If its a new habitat for your turtle once again we go back to #1
